San Salvador, El Salvador (Zona Rosa/San Benito)

Overall: A wholly underwhelming country. From the food to the Airbnbs to the beaches. The people are nice, but that's like saying you liked the Airbnb because it had a roof. That's my minimum expectation. People are nice almost everywhere (notable exception: Istanbul). However, and surprisingly, the women were rather unpleasant to interact with. The guys were cool. Not that cheap of a country, maybe because they use the dollar. Compared to the value you get for your money, it's a bad deal. I do appreciate the approach the government has taken in regards to Covid and cryptocurrency adoption and I will make a video on that soon. With Mexico and Panama nearby, I don't see any reason to return anytime soon.

• The least walkable city I've visited to date
• Uses the dollar and bitcoin is legal (you can pay with Bitcoin to enter the country and at most stores)
• El Tunco is like the Bali/Tulum of El Salvador, 45-minutes from the city, active surf and nightlife scene.
• You cannot find fresh salmon or frozen fruit in the grocery stores.
• Millennium Plaza is under construction now and will be the gem of the city with it's own shopping center plus connected to Galerias shopping mall
• Doesn't appear to be a single official public library
• Lots of earthquakes so the highest building is only about 20 stories high. Last major earthquake: 2001
• Almost nobody walks even though they have some of the nicest sidewalks in Latin America!
• Very few streetlights. Super dark at night on the roads.
• The Uber drivers will annoyingly ask you where you're going, then if you need change. They cancel if you don't pay in cash. Sometimes you have to go through this routine 3x to get a ride.
• Western-style supermarket: Super Selectos
• Airbnbs are low quality. I paid $1400 per month for something not great. Even at $2000+ you're looking at only a slight improvement.
