“Most persons are so absorbed in the contemplation of the outside world that they are wholly oblivious to what is passing on within themselves.” (p. 11)
This blog contains both my summary and review of the book My Inventions.
On Prohibition and Stimulants
“A drastic, if not unconstitutional measure is now being put thru in this country to prevent the consumption of alcohol and yet it is a positive fact that coffee, tea, tobacco, chewing gum and other stimulants, which are freely indulged in even at the tender age, are vastly more injurious to the national body, judging from the number of those who succumb.” (p. 11)
As I read the book, you will find my in-progress My Inventions review and book summary notes below.
“Peace can only come as a natural consequence of universal enlightenment and merging of races, and we are still far from this blissful realization.” (p. 54)

Coffee Consumption (and Chewing Gum)
“Long ago I suffered from heart trouble until I discovered that it was due to the innocent cup of coffee I consumed every morning.” (p. 9)
For maybe a year, I have been skeptical of coffee. It’s supposed to do everything, even in “moderate” quantities defined as up to 6 shots of espresso – an amount almost no one drinks more than (convenient for the industry).
“..during my student years I gathered from the published necrologues in Vienna, the home of coffee drinkers, that deaths from heart trouble sometimes reached sixty-seven per cent of the total..These delicious beverages superexcite and gradually exhaust the fine fibers of the brain. They also interviewed seriously with arterial circulation and should be enjoyed all the more sparingly as their deleterious effects are slow and imperceptible.” (p. 11)
It should be noted that Edison, a known coffee (even late-night) drinker, died at 84. Tesla died at 86.
Equally interesting to note, chewing gum was considered a stimulant and controversial. “Chewing gum is helpful for a short while but soon drains the glandular system and inflicts irreparable damage, not to speak of the revulsion it creates.” (p. 12)
