Welcome to my The Art of Witty Banter book summary!

I purchased this book to help me be more witty in conversation. To me that means saying nonsense comments or shooting the shit, something that I’m not natrually good at becuase I’m too serious in conversation. I stay in the factural world too much. I need to loosen up, inject more creativity and humor into my convesations and I hope to gain a few tips from this book.

This blog will contain both my summary and review of the book The Art of Witty Banter.

Don’t ask questions in the absolute format. What is your favorite song of all time? It puts people on the spot and removes any creativity from the conversation. They can be hard to answer (require thought delays the answer, and belabor the conversation) and don’t leave any wiggle room.

When your conversational parnter tells a story, figure out which emotion they were feeling and show it back to them. Those emotions are: joy, annoyance, anger, sadness, humor. BUT! Don’t show them too soon. We all have that person is our lives who is faking it. We know this becuase they are reacting too soon…they say, “oh no way!” while you are thinking ‘what are you reacting to, I haven’t even finished the story?’. So the conversational hack is to wait a little longer than shorter to show your reaction. If the reaction seems geniune, and it’s too over the top, then you, as the story sharer, might wonder if the person is even hearing you as they onbiously want to break into the conversation.
