Important Concept: The intermediate plateau does not exist. What does exist as you advance in any language is an ever-increasing understanding joined with less visible results. “It’s only a more advanced level. You need to put in more effort for less visible results.” (p. 101)

The author provides the following guide for how much care your new language needs:

• A1 – newborn baby that needs your full attention or it will die
• B1 – 11-year-old, independent in familiar situations, but with enough time will likely get themselves killed
• B2 – 18-year-old, fully independent with wisdom, needs your guidance on deeper or more complex topics, will not get themselves killed excpt with extreme neglect
• C1/C2 – adult and self-sufficient, but always your child and not going anywhere
