Antigua, Guatemala

(Early-2018, 3 MONTHS)

  • Private Spanish lessons for $5 and private salsa lessons for $13 (I recommend Salsa Con Gloria or Salsa y Stylo for Salsa and Maxima Nivel or my private tutor Anna Silvia at +502.4257.0769)
  • The cellular data is unbelievably slow (this is true for the entire country) and sometimes does not work
  • Tons of black crap comes out of the exhaust of every chicken bus and many cars/mopeds, unfortunately. You can smell it sometimes.
  • The weather is unbelievably consistent. Sunrise around 6; usually sunny with a bit of clouds; hot from 11–4pm; cold in the mornings and at night; never rains.
  • Super small town about 15 minutes from the capital, the main portion is about 7x7 blocks
  • On Saturdays, the town fills up from residents from the capital
  • Even though this is a touristy city, there are still many locals. Many expensive restaurants, but also many cheap alternatives
  • Zero traffic lights
  • Many street dogs, but they all seem nice. Can’t remembering hearing one bark even.
  • The roads are so bump and uneven that no one drives more than 15mph
  • hahaha in spanish is jajaja (useful for your texting)
  • I visited Lake Atitlan, it's full of hippies, was ok as a short vacation
  • El Paredon was cool, but hard as hell to get to because no paved roads

I also visited Lake Atitlán, Guatemala City, and El Paredon.
