Cancun, Mexico (downtown)

(Early-2022, 1 WEEK)

Summary: I knew I wouldn't like the hotel zone. I went last night and confirmed that suspicion. It's pure tourism, and the worst king. Fat, drunk, Americans falling over themselves at Senor Frogs and being taken advantage of by the local Mexicans. So, I decided to stay in El Centro/Downtown. It's the least walkable city I've ever visited. Super hot. Not much to do. No cafe scene. No attractive women. Expensive. My Airbnb didn't have hot water. There are a bunch of parks, but they're not utilized.

  • Take the big red busses from downtown to the hotel zone for 12MXN ($0.60). A taxi will cost something like 300MXN
  • The hotel zone is nothing but private hotels, a small party district, a few shopping malls, and a couple public beaches
  • There's a public lookout on the top of Playa Delfines if you search on Google Maps
  • You can actually see the sunset if you go to Playa Blanca. It's about an hour drive from city center and very local. For the last 10-minutes of the trip, the road ends.
  • For nightlife and some day pool parties, check out Selena, Nomad's, and Hunter Bar
  • Marian Puerto Cancun is the best part of Cancun. It's a large walkable Marina. Kind of remind me of Dubai Marina. It's being built up in 2022, but this spot has potential, though it's going to come with a price.
  • The most walkable part is near Parque de las Palapas, at night there are a lot of people out here in the large park
  • The Tajamar Pier is a nice walkable area overlooking the lagoon
  • There are actually alot of parks in this city, they're just not utilized so much because it's too hot and not a walkable city
