Welcome to my Stradivari’s Genius book summary!
One-Sentence-Summary: Part biography, part history, Stradivari’s Genius records the world’s most famous and skillful luthier, Antonio Stradivari (1644 – 1737), through his personal life, including the burying of two wives, and professional life by following eight of his instruments through time.

While a fine book, what I really wanted was a biography of Stradivari, and it appears I chose the wrong book, with more reviews. I am reading four other books of mild interest, but more than this with two others in the queue so I am putting this one to rest.
This blog will contain both my summary and review of the book Stradivari’s Genius.
“..the last of them born in January 1708, when his father was sixty-three and his mother forty-three.” (p. 62) Interesting that in the 1700s a woman and man could produce a healthy baby this late in life!

Luthier – maker of stringed instruments
Society ladies – wealthy wives whose job was predominantly to keep their status by attending events and social gatherings
Diletante (n) – a person who likes the arts without a real commitment or knowledge (a diletante approach to science)
Baedeker – an early travel guide from the 1800s and still published today.
anachronism (n) – something belonging to a period other than which it exists, or old-fashioned (her outfit was a total anachonism like she stepped out of the 1950’s)
