BOGOTA, COLOMBIA (Chico Norte)

(2013, 2021-2; 2 WEEKS)

Overall: underrated. A true big city feel with lots to do. Traffic is bad, you'll want to live where you work and play. Weather is significantly colder than Medellin, but both are cloudy and rainy. Air pollution similar to Medellin. More parks than Medellin. Thankfully lacking the 'girls for hire' vibe from Medellin.

  • Bogotá Downtown Bacatá is the world's first crowdfunded skyscraper and the first in Colombia in 35 years. The structure is financed by over 3,800 ordinary Colombians.
  • Nightlife was really mellow for a city of 8 million, even Friday and Saturday nights in the main areas.
  • Bogotá is one of the most bike-friendly cities in the world, home to the Cicloruta—the most extensive bicycle path network in Latin America.
  • Zona T is nice and the party zone. I like it, except for the hordes of scammers on the street offering 'chicas' and after parties.
  • For being such a large city, it's surprising that there's only really one (though, rather large) nice area to live.
  • National Observatory of Colombia became the first outer space observatory to built in the Western Hemisphere in 1803.
  • Lots of casinos $$$
