SABANETA, COLOMBIA

(Early-2021, 6 WEEKS)

I arrived here when Medellin added regulations including curfew at 5pm or 8pm and total quarantine Thursdays-Sundays. Needless to say, I didn't get an accurate impression of Sabaneta.

Check out my YouTube video on Medellin neighborhoods.

Here are my favorite Sabaneta cafes.

  • It hails here often, 2x in a month. And I mean giant chunks of ice. In general, it rains more in the south.
  • Feels bigger than Envigado, but it's just 1/5 the size (population: 43,000)
  • The vibe is much more authentic here, even though it's so close to Poblado. I don't feel like everyone is looking at me as a sexpat here to buy women and drugs. This is a HUGE plus for me.
  • There is only one gym in the main area, SmartFit, and it is packed at all hours.
  • Better grocery stores and cafe's than in Envigado, but lacking a 'calle de la buena mesa' zone

If you're planning a trip in Colombia, I have information on Medellin, Bogota, Envigado, Cali, Pereira, Barranquilla, and Cartagena.
