BUCARAMANGA (Cabecera) “City of the Parks” “Colombia’s Beautiful City”

(Early-2022, 1 WEEK)

Nicknames: "Ciudad de los Parques" and "La Ciudad Bonita"

Also check out Medellin, Cali, Pereira, Barranquilla, Envigado, Sabaneta, Bogota, or Cartagena.

  • No gringos! I asked some of the workers in a mall how many foreigners they see and their answer was 'a lot!' upon further questioning they see at least one foreigner per day.
  • Has the highest residential-only building in all of Colombia named "Majestic" at 163 meters.
  • Favorite cafe/coworking: ColorWorking
  • Best gym: Energym
  • Best shopping mall: Cacique (in the evenings, go up to the top floor and in one corner is a bunch of bars and restaurants, sit near the wings for a drink, easy way to meet people)
  • Climate compared to Medellin: slightly hotter, much more sun, much less rain (similar pollution level)
  • Basketball is very popular (I guess they have one soccer team which is terrible)
  • Very walkable
  • Infinity Sky Club building is one of the newer ones with a rooftop pool in a good location
  • The people from here are called "Bumangues"
  • Over 160 parks in this city!
  • There are dudes all out at night on motorcycles offering a taxi service...4k COP/$1 for a short ride.
  • Bucaramanga Most Instagrammable: Santisimo (their version of Christ the Redeemer...and way better!)
  • Puente de la Novena, a walkable bridge with lights that would be packed if this city was touristy, but instead it's calm and beautiful.
  • Parque Cerro del Santisimo, another incredible touristy activity that feels so much more unique and special because there's no crowds

Bucaramanga has about 1.5 million people between the three cities (Floridablanca and Giron). Cabrecera and Prado are the nicest areas with the nicest parks in the city, by far.
